Wilmington Police Department Friday, September 19, 2008 The Wilmington Police Department is requesting assistance in publicizing photos (attached) from an armed robbery that occurred earlier this week. The man in these photos entered the Walgreens at 4521 Oleander Drive on Monday morning at about 1:45 a.m. According to witnesses, the man got a soda out of the cooler and came to the register as if he was going to pay. Then he presented the cashier with a note that demanded money. The robber also had his hand in his pocket implying that he had a gun. The cashier gave the robber cash and he left. The suspect is described as a white male in his 50's with a gray mustache and gray hair in a ponytail. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a gray t-shirt with dark sleeves, blue jeans and sandals. Anyone who recognizes this suspect is asked to call the Wilmington Police Department at 343-3600. In addition, here are a couple of significant incidents from the past 24 hours. Case#:08-037792 Time: 12:38 a.m. - Friday morning Location: 3600 Princess Place Dr Offense: ADW on a law enforcement officer Summary: A WPD officer was driving along Princess Place Drive when he saw a bright flash, heard a loud bang from the woodline along the road, and realized he'd been shot at. He also saw two figures running away toward the northwest. (Officer was not injured). Responding officers were unable to locate anyone in the area. WPD has directed extra resources into this area for the past few weeks.and heavy police presence will continue. Case#: 2008-037800 Time: 3:16 a.m. - Friday morning Location: 400 block Wayne Drive Offense: B&E Auto/Larceny Summary: A resident from E. Renovah Circle called to report that someone was in her yard looking into cars. Several responding officers created a perimeter while two others got out on foot to search the area. Officers stopped a man for questioning in the 400 block Mercer Street and found that he had a cell phone taken from one of two cars that had been broken into on Wayne Drive. The suspect, Leroy Junior Horton (d.o.b. 2-3-61) of Wilmington was charged with two counts of B & E Auto and one count of Larceny. He also was charged with violating a Domestic Violence Protective Order. Horton is being held at the New Hanover County jail under $30,000 secured bond.
